The Redskins didn’t put together a complete game in Week 3 of the preseason. But is it something to worry about?

Looking at the box score alone, the Washington Redskins certainly left room to improve in their third preseason matchup.

In a game where the starters were under the spotlight, they underwhelmed on both sides of the ball. On offense, Alex Smith was a bit off, and the unit couldn’t consistently drive down the field. Smith locked onto Vernon Davis for much of the first half, and rarely did the team stray from predictable cycles.

On defense, the Redskins helped Case Keenum and the Broncos achieve the opposite feat. Emmanuel Sanders and Courtland Sutton had their way with the Redskins’ secondary, with the latter beating veteran cornerback Josh Norman on two consecutive plays. The run defense was also inconsistent, and at one point, the Broncos outscored the Redskins by a score of 23 to 3.

A lone bright spot in the Redskins off night was Adrian Peterson. The veteran back showed off some of his usual vision and energetic running style, scampering for 56 yards on 11 carries. His performance staved off the doubters for now. If he can put together another solid outing next week, then he can earn permanent confidence.

A lot of developments splayed out on Friday night, but how much of it actually matters? After all, it is preseason, right? In our latest podcast, we discuss this and more! To listen, click the play link below!
