2. Shaun Dion Hamilton once again leads Redskins in tackles

Few expected Hamilton to be an impact player immediately for the Redskins. However, in the first preseason game, Hamilton was all over the field in the second half and ended up leading the team in tackles. He will have a chance to do that once again against the Jets.

In the first week of the preseason, Hamilton showed a propensity for shooting through gaps quickly and getting to the ball carrier almost immediately. That’s what allowed him to make some nice stops near the line of scrimmage, and it’s also why he held up in coverage too.

The Jets don’t have a particularly deep group at either receiver or on the offensive line, so Hamilton will once again get a chance to shine as an all-around option for the defense. Considering that he is now engaged in a battle for one of the top linebacker backup spots, he should be motivated to put on a show and do everything he can to win a big role.

Hamilton may be a rookie sixth-round pick, but he has the traits of a Day 2 pick. With him fully healthy, the Redskins will have options in the linebacker corps, which is great news considering that their top backup from last season, Will Compton, left the team in free agency.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Hamilton reach low double-digit tackles in this contest. Either way, Hamilton has a very strong chance to once again lead the team in tackles and continue to make his case for the No. 3 linebacker role.
