Redskins camp had a few scares on Wednesday, but things appear to be okay.

With the NFL calendar now flipping into August, NFL football appears to be close for the first time in a good, long while. Redskins training camp also finished up its sixth session to close out their first full week of camp, and things went pretty well for their players. Minus, of course, a big injury scare.

Josh Doctson suffered an injury in the day and left the field in pain. There was a lot of cause for concern after Doctson was landed on by Josh Norman, but thankfully, the shoulder injury doesn’t appear to be too serious. Doctson reportedly has a sprained AC joint, but he should be fine by the start of the season.

Elsewhere in the receiving corps, one of the stars of the day for the Redskins was free agent signee Paul Richardson. The former Seahawk is yet another member of the deep receiver group to shine, and ESPN’s John Keim said the following of his on-field performance.

More from Riggo's Rag

"Standout performer of the day: Receiver Paul Richardson. The free agent signee had shown snippets during the first week of camp, but Wednesday made his biggest impact. He made a diving grab of an Alex Smith pass down the right sideline. He caught a deep post and then on a deep out, the ball arrived as soon as Richardson turned around (Smith told the receivers he wanted to emphasize this today). Richardson’s speed is obvious, but what will help the Redskins just as much is how they’re using him on a variety of routes."

If Richardson can establish himself as the deep threat of the offense, there is a good chance that he will be a big part of the team’s offensive attack. He’s the closest thing that Washington has to Tyreek Hill, so expecting him to be a downfield threat is reasonable, especially considering Alex Smith’s great downfield accuracy.

In other Skins related news, Preston Smith and the team have not really discussed a contract extension and it seems that he will be a free agent in 2019. This is a mistake for the Redskins, as they are unlikely to be able to afford him next offseason barring a major regression. It will be interesting to see how the Redskins handle their three major potential contract extensions coming up in Smith, Brandon Scherff, and Jamison Crowder.

Arguably the best moment of the day came from DeAngelo Hall, who officially announced his retirement on Wednesday. He offered the Redskins fans one great quote in reference to the four-interception game he once had against Jay Cutler (per NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay)

Redskins camp continues to roll on, and once tomorrow comes, there will only be a week before the team’s first preseason matchup with the New England Patriots.
