Even in training camp, health hiccups are bound to happen. The Redskins experienced another one today, this time with a familiar culprit.

Drafted by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Josh Doctson hasn’t quite lived up to his draft status. For most of his rookie season, he was sidelined with a nagging Achilles injury. In his second year, he showed bright flashes, albeit mired in inconsistency.

With two years left on his rookie contract, and the team’s patience slowly but surely dwindling, 2018 is Doctson’s year to prove himself as a wide receiver worthy of time and money.

Doctson started out training camp on the wrong foot with the fans, undergoing an MRI on his Achilles to monitor the pesky tendon. The move by itself prompted alarm, but there was no damage, and Doctson started training camp completely healthy, with his confidence in tact.

Doctson showed immense promise in the first week of training camp, and that excitement extended into this week. But earlier today, he suffered an apparent shoulder injury when he and Josh Norman got tangled up in the end zone. Here is an update on the injury, which has not been officially diagnosed yet:

Rapoport states that the injury resembles a minor AC joint sprain, but per the Washington Redskins’ official Twitter feed, Doctson is currently in the process of evaluation, and an update on his status will not be shared with the public until tomorrow. Doctson himself also sent out a tweet, saying simply: “I’m good”.

If the current suspicions prove to be true, then Doctson will miss a week, at the very least. But that outlook is much more positive than it would be, had Doctson suffered a collarbone issue, instead. Now is the time to experience those setbacks, when the players have time to heal and time to catch up on what they miss.
