Report: Redskins free agent Will Compton visiting the Tennessee Titans
Will Compton is highly unlikely to rejoin the Washington Redskins after the moves they have made in free agency. Now, he’s visiting the Tennessee Titans.
Will Compton has had a nice career with the Washington Redskins. After being an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska, he found a role with the Redskins as a primary backup and then worked his way into the starting lineup. He was a solid but unspectacular option in the middle of the defense, but he got the job done.
However, last year Compton lost his starting job to Zach Brown after the team added Brown in free agency. Brown and Mason Foster proved to be a solid starting duo, so once the duo re-signed this offseason, Compton became expendable. The team already has some young backups available, so they can take over his role.
With Compton likely to leave, he has taken a couple of visits, and most recently he visited the Tennessee Titans per ESPN’s John Keim. This was just a little while after he visited with the Buffalo Bills.

The Titans make sense as a landing spot for Compton. They lost solid starting linebacker Avery Williamson to the New York Jets in free agency and while they may have a possible replacement in Jayon Brown, they still need depth at the position. That’s part of why we have them selecting Leighton Vander Esch in the first round of our latest NFL Mock Draft.
Compton would be a nice get for the Titans. He’s a veteran presence who is great in coverage and has the ability to be a starter in either a 4-3 or 3-4 defense. He’s not the best tackler, but he will have a chance to carve out a role in the linebacker corps. He could start next to Wesley Woodyard and make way for Brown in obvious running situations. That role would suit him very well.

The Redskins will miss Compton’s leadership in the locker room, but the fact is that they have capable replacement options for him. He’ll earn a job somewhere else, so perhaps Tennessee will be a solid fit for him.
