Of course, this all depends on whether or not Cravens has the passion to play

While getting Cravens back would be nice for the Redskins, there is a caveat to bringing him back. The first is obviously that the Redskins won’t want Cravens back if he doesn’t want to play.

Cravens left the team because at the time, the second-year man was unsure if he wanted to keep playing. His teammates seemed to be worried about his commitment and former defensive captain Will Compton gave him a pep talk in which he requested more of Cravens. If the team has to push him to produce, then there is no point in bringing him back.

Also, it’s worth noting that Cravens wanted to return earlier in the year, but the Redskins instead placed him on the reserve/left squad list to end his season. This seemed like a strange turn of events at the time, as it really seemed like both sides were ready to have a reunion and get Cravens back on the field. It’s fair to wonder if the relationship between Cravens and the Redskins could be strained, and that could create another obstacle as they look to bring back the USC product.

This will be the most important factor to bringing back Cravens. While the team would like to get him back, getting a non-committed player is a move that has little upside. If Cravens wants to return but not to Washington, the team could look to trade him to a team he’s willing to play for. A solid option would be sending him to Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams.

Cravens will be able to find a place to play even if he doesn’t return to Washington. But still, he has to show he wants to play before returning to the NFL.
