Montae Nicholson is proving to be a bit injury prone

During his first season as a Redskin, Montae Nicholson has done fairly well in a good deal of action. Nicholson has been a starter at times for the team, and he has showed good ball skills. His coverage ability is solid, but there is one problem. Nicholson has been hurt too frequently.

So far during his rookie year, Nicholson has played in eight games and has not played in four. He has dealt with a shoulder injury that was a problem when the team drafted him, and has missed the past couple of weeks due to a concussion. Recently, he suffered a setback in process and he may not be able to play again on Sunday.

The Redskins have to be wary of Nicholson’s injury issues. They have dealt with similar issues to other players like Jordan Reed. When a player is too brittle, it is very hard to rely on them to consistently play, let alone play at a high level. So, having Cravens back would allow the Redskins extra depth in the event that Nicholson is hurt.

Of course, it also might be a bit too early to label to Nicholson as injury prone. After all, he is just a rookie and aside from the concussion, his injuries haven’t been that serious. It’s just hard to entrust a young, injury prone player as a future starter. Even though Nicholson has showed flashes of solid ability.

At the end of the day, getting Cravens back would protect against Nicholson’s absence. Nicholson could serve as a starter or primary backup while Cravens could play all over the defense in whatever package the Redskins are using. Adding depth and versatility to any unit is never a bad thing.
