Su’a Cravens is surprisingly mulling retirement from the NFL. The Washington Redskins want to help him adjust to the league, but they may be better off trading him to give him a change of scenery.

One of the most important things a player possesses in the NFL is the desire to play. Day in and day out, the players who love the game are the ones who give the most effort. This translates to solid play very often and can elevate the play of guys who aren’t necessarily the most talented. Desire and passion are important, and right now it appears that Su’a Cravens is questioning his desire.

Cravens is mulling retirement prior to the season, and was recently placed on the exempt/left team list. He will be out for at least a month while he and the Redskins alike try to figure out what his future will be.

Right now, things are looking difficult. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and John Keim, the young Redskin is struggling to adjust to the NFL.

"Cravens is one of the league’s youngest players, a second-round pick last year, and he is struggling with his transition to the NFL. Washington officials want to help him through his issues rather than have him walk away from the game, which would make him one of the youngest NFL players to date to retire."

It’s unclear why the adjustment has been so hard for Cravens, but there’s a multitude of things that it could be. It could be a mental thing, it could be a family issue. Really, it could be anything.

Right now, the Redskins are in a tough spot. They can’t do much with Cravens, but they luckily have a lot of options at the safety position. However, they may want to consider possibly working out a deal to move Cravens to a team that could potentially better suited for what he currently needs.

What I’m really talking about is the possibility of trading Cravens to the Los Angeles Rams. Cravens played his college ball at USC and was born and raised in Los Angeles. Perhaps a return to his home city would do well for him and would make him more comfortable in his surroundings. He would be surrounded by his friends and family from the area, and the Rams head coach, Sean McVay, is familiar with him from his time in Washington. There is no guarantee that this would be the remedy to Cravens’ problems, but it could be a possible option.

For compensation, the Redskins would have to get some sort of conditional pick. It may not be anything close to the second rounder that the spent on Cravens, but they could make it incentive based depending on if and how Cravens plays.

At the end of the day, this is merely an idea for both sides. There is nothing to suggest that a trade to Los Angeles would be imminent. But if Cravens needs help adjusting to the NFL and Washington can’t give him what he needs, L.A. would be a good place for him to try and figure things out.
