After a heartbreak loss to the Vikings, the Redskins have an incredibly difficult path back to the playoffs. It doesn’t get any easier this week, as they face the NFC’s current No. 2 seed, New Orleans Saints.

Currently on a 7-game win streak, the Saints have a high-octane offense and a semi-stout defense. After Ian proved me wrong last week, my confidence has fallen to a season low. The Saints’ running game is coming off a 298 yard and 6 touchdown performance last week, and it doesn’t look like it will slow down against the Redskins. The Saints are one of the NFL’s most complete teams, and while I don’t think they’ll beat the Redskins handily, I do still expect a Saints win.

After the defensive performance the Redskins had against Case Keenum, how can they honestly expect to perform against Drew Brees? The Saints are a better team than the Vikings, and while I don’t expect the defense to play that poorly again, I don’t expect a good outing, either.

I think Kirk Cousins will have a solid day, but he must avoid the terrible mistakes he made against the Vikings. The interception at the end of the first half last week is where all momentum went in Minnesota’s favor, and you can trace the loss back to that moment. Jay Gruden must also be better. I have always been a supporter of Gruden, but last week, he flat-out let me down, turning in one of his worst coaching performances with the Redskins to date.

Hopefully the Redskins can get their own running game going, and Perine is in line for a solid game. However, unless the Redskins play lights out on defense and eliminates the mistakes on offense, they won’t win this game. It would be typical Redskins fashion to win their biggest game in years, and then lose back to back games. Saints win it 35-28.
