After the Redskins’ loss last week, Matt’s lead on Ian has now decreased to just one game. Through nine games played in the series, Matt is up by a slim margin of 5-4. Who will win this week? Here’s Ian’s prediction:

Do I want the Redskins to win this week? Yes. But do I see it happening? Absolutely not.

In my mind, they had a better shot last week, at home, against a Vikings team that, despite its stellar defense, had tangible weaknesses to game plan around. The Redskins failed to do that, and this week, it’ll only be harder. The Saints are 7-2, and the team is solid in every area. Their weakest links are masked by superb play in other areas, and their strongest links just keep getting stronger.

The odds are entirely against the 4-5 Redskins this week, as they’ll travel to the Superdome to take on Drew Brees’ team. Injuries are still an issue, and the offense and defense still haven’t found ways to compliment one another. If they ever find a rhythm this season, it’s likely it will be too late.

I expect the Redskins to find a way to win some games in what’s left of the regular season. But they won’t start those winning ways tomorrow. The Saints are a better team at every position. Their defense is stifling, and their offense is elite.

I see the Redskins’ defense putting up a better effort than they did against the Vikings, but the offense, as usual, won’t move the ball when they need to. The Redskins will lose another game by double digits, this one by a score of 27-17. I don’t blame Matt if he’s not optimistic, either. Whaddaya got, Matt?
