Just Kirk being Kirk: Cousins has a chart with media members’ names on it
By Ian Cummings
Just Kirk being Kirk.
Kirk Cousins doesn’t need to remember the names of all the players he torched en route to earning NFC Player of the Week in Week 3. But when you speak to the local media a lot, you might want to get familiar with the townsfolk. It might be a smart thing to do.
Luckily, Cousins doesn’t appear to be lacking in that department. Just like he does with everything else, Kirk has a perfectly, flawlessly, and just ‘Kirk’ way of doing that. He has a chart to remember the names of all the media members, per Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post.
Hey, what else can we say? Kirk is a classy guy. This is just another example of him preparing zealously for just one aspect of his life as a professional football player. It’s only common courtesy to develop a friendly relationship with local reporters, and Kirk, the neighborhood’s friendly, slightly corny star quarterback, doesn’t surprise anyone with this carefully choreographed chart. Perhaps he should give Bruce Allen a lesson on remembering names. Oh, shoot. Beating a dead horse. Moving on.
Cousins’… er, Kirk’s solid play thus far in 2017 makes it easy to move on from the front office’s offseason woes. Cousins started off slow, as was expected, but in Week 3, he broke out against a stellar Raiders team, going 25 for 30 for 365 yards and 3 touchdowns. He garnered national acclaim for the performance, and he appears to be solidified as the stalwart captain of a trusty offensive crew on the Redskins.
Cousins will need to keep up his performance in Week 4. The Kansas City Chiefs are far from an easy opponent, and on the road, their at a win chances only increase. The offense has been electric thus far, and the defense has been more than serviceable. The team is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best in the entire league. And while the Redskins have certainly leapt up the leaderboards after their blowout of the Raiders, they aren’t quite at the Chiefs’ level just yet. But a signature win would change that.

It won’t be easy. However, if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this little media chart episode, it’s that Cousins is good at taking names. And if he keeps up his play from Week 3, he’ll be doing plenty of that against a depleted Chiefs’ secondary, and he’ll do it under the lights on Monday Night Football.
