The Redskins saw Kirk Cousins put together one of his best career performances on Sunday night, and now he’s garnering national attention. But what else is new?

Many expected a showcase of offensive firepower when the Redskins and Raiders faced off on Sunday Night Football, but in the end, we only saw such a thing from one of those teams. While the Raiders stumbled for just 128 yards of total offense, the Redskins erupted in Week 3, moving the football with ease.

At the center of that successful effort, Kirk Cousins shined, completing 25 of his 30 attempts for 365 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was solid in every sense of the word. His pocket presence never faltered, and he made the right decision on every down. He showed an increased willingness to go deep, and that was evident with long touchdown passes to Vernon Davis and Josh Doctson.

He also showed an awareness of his own weapons, feeding Chris Thompson frequently. In the end, it was a stellar game for Cousins, who rebounded from a slow start in the first two weeks. It was such a good performance, in fact, that Cousins has been nominated as a candidate for FedEx Air Player of the Week.

Must Read: How far can the Redskins go if they continue to dominate?

Cousins’ recognition puts him in impressive company. Along with Cousins, Tom Brady and Case Keenum (Week 3 was weird, guys. I don’t know what to tell ya) both made impressive bids in their respective games. Going by stats alone, Tom Brady seems to be the favorite, as he went for 378 yards and 5 touchdowns in a nail-biter against the Houston Texans. But in terms of play on the field, Cousins made a compelling case. Cousins had the highest completion percentage by a sizable margin, and his passer rating of 150.7 was the highest of the week.

Statistically, Cousins is right where he should be after Week 3. His 784 yards place him at ninth in the league, and his 5 touchdowns earn the same mark. His 105.3 passer rating thus far is good for fifth among the league’s passers, and his completion percentage of 68.0 is good for eighth.

We here at Riggo’s Rag might be a bit biased, but by those numbers, Cousins is more than deserving of FedEx Air Player of the Week. Want your voice to be heard?
