The Redskins will come into week two of preseason looking for improvement. This development will give them exactly that. It appears Montae Nicholson and Fabian Moreau have both been cleared for full participation in practice.

The Redskins worked to fix the mistakes they so freely and vibrantly made on Thursday night last practice. And luckily for them, two players previously injured will be wearing pads with the rest of the team from now on. Rookies Montae Nicholson and Fabian Moreau have been cleared for full participation in practice.

The rookies reported to their first full practice on Saturday, and things went smoothly. Courtesy of Redskins.com’s Jake Kring-Schreifels, the two both put together solid reps in their first action without restraints.

"Fabian Moreau wasn’t afraid to get physical with fellow rookie Robert Davis during 1-on-1’s and took reps with the second team for most of practice. He will still need some time to get back to full speed, adjusting to double moves that receivers throw at him and making sure his legs are up at full strength.Nicholson, back after a shoulder injury, will have the same types of adjustments but already looks like he will be ready to play an enforcer in the secondary. He has good speed and, on one play, showed his physicality during a run play, banging running back Samaje Perine with his helmet and knocking him to the ground."

It’ll be good to have the two rookies getting substantial reps from now on. Both have potential, and the best way to kindle that flame is to get them experience. Moreau, in particular, has an impressive college resume, one that could have landed him in the first round, had he not suffered a pectoral injury during his pro day.

Nicholson, on the other hand, didn’t put together a resume quite as compelling, but he has potential as a physical middle man in the secondary. He’s no lock to make the roster, as he could never quite put together his game in college. But getting healthy will be the first step in helping him realize his potential. With time, he could turn into a reliable depth player in the defensive backfield.

The Redskins’ secondary wasn’t a huge cause for concern on Thursday night, relative to other facets of the team. Joshua Holsey played well, and in general, they held the Ravens’ passing offense to modest gains. However, the rest of the team faltered mightily under the lights. The offense, normally the calling card of the Redskins, was totally inert against a stout Ravens line.

Improvement is a necessity in week two. And luckily for the Redskins, they’ll be short two less players on the defensive side of the ball. The injury bug hit hard for the Redskins on Thursday night, but Saturday’s developments bring new health and promise.
