Kirk Cousins was getting amped up at training camp on Wednesday. He was rapping one of the songs from the famous Broadway musical Hamilton.

Kirk Cousins has apparently been able to do a lot over the course of the offseason. In addition to trying to negotiate a new contract with the Redskins, he has golfed with the President and apparently has familiarized himself with one of the most popular Broadway musicals of the millennium.

Hamilton follows the life of Alexander Hamilton during the American Revolution and the creation of the constitution in the post-war days. The music, book, and lyrics are all by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who played the title role in the Broadway debut of the musical. Since it came out, the musical garnered a lot of attention from fans and critics alike. It was nominated for 16 Tonys in 2016, which is a record for a Broadway musical.

Anyway, Cousins appears to have gotten to know Hamilton over the course of the past couple of years. At practice on Wednesday, he was caught rapping the lyrics to the opening number as he warmed up his arm (via CSN Mid-Atlantic).

For those without sound, Cousins sang the following:

"The ten-dollar Founding Father without a fatherGot a lot farther by working a lot harderBy being a lot smarterBy being a self-starterBy fourteen, they placed him in charge of a trading charter"

Cousins seemed to have pretty good rhythm, and it may be a good thing for Redskins fans if Cousins is inspired by Hamilton. They do have some similarities. Hamilton rose to greatness seemingly out of the blue and became an important figure during the revolution and the creation of the Constitution.

Cousins’ success came out of the blue too, as many predicted that Robert Griffin III would be the franchise quarterback for the Redskins. Instead, Cousins toughed it out, waited for his opportunity, and like Hamilton, did not “throw away his shot.” They both have chips on their shoulders that motivate them to be the best that they can be.

Next: Offseason optimism may not be parlayed into success for Redskins

It’s just nice to see that Cousins is having some fun at camp. After a turbulent offseason, the Redskins should be happy to see their franchise guy enjoying himself. If he can continue to have fun and play well during the season, the team will be in good shape.
