Did Kyle Shanahan just send Kirk Cousins a message?
By Donny Starr
Either San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan sent Kirk Cousins a message or it’s coincidence.
According to reports, Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers aren’t looking for a “short-term fix” when it comes to the quarterback position.
Shanahan said, via Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News that, “You want to make a commitment to somebody. In order to do that, you better make sure you’re on the same page with everyone else and you put the time in, you talk to people who’ve been with these guys.” He added, “In order to feel good about a quarterback, I need to spend a lot of time on them…It’s not always the first time you watch them. You might come back the next day, see the same stuff and feel a little different. … It’s too important a decision to just make an impulsive move.”

These comments come on the heels of rumors speculating Cousins is done trying to land a long-term deal. Cousins has always said he’d take the franchise tag with no worries. However, with Shanahan lighting the beacons out West, Cousins now knows there’s someone out there that shares his vision. Cousins and Shanahan work well together.
It’s very doubtful the 49ers will re-sign political activist/sometimes quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Now you’ve got to wonder if this will spark the Redskins to make an early decision before it’s too late. More than likely, they’ll continue watching from a distance.
Once they see what his options are, they’ll present their offer. Either way, Kyle Shanahan pulled a slick move: Present the job description, and see if he bites.
