The Washington Redskins are in the process of remaking their roster. After adding 10 new players in the draft, they released a few guys on Tuesday.

May is always an interesting time for the NFL roster crunch. With free agency virtually over and the draft having come to an end, teams are trying to decide which players they want to include on their 90-man roster. For the Washington Redskins, this is going to be a difficult decision. With 10 new draft picks coming in, the team needed to make some room on the roster.

On Tuesday, the Redskins released four players, according to their official Twitter account. None of these releases should come as much of a surprise.

One of the more notable names on this list is linebacker Steven Daniels. The former Boston College Eagle was a seventh round pick by Washington in the 2016 NFL Draft. Daniels spent the entirety of his rookie year on the injured reserve. With the addition of Zach Brown in free agency, the Redskins apparently felt content to let Daniels walk. This is especially true since rookie seventh rounder Josh Harvey-Clemons may end up getting a chance at linebacker after playing safety in college.

As for the other players, all were long shots to make the roster at best. Rufus Johnson has bounced around the league since 2013, playing sparingly for the Saints, Patriots, and signing on to the Redskins practice squad last season. He had little chance of making it as a rush linebacker after the Redskins added Ryan Anderson in the draft.

As for Quinton Schooley and Reggie Diggs, both are just young players who would have been hard pressed to make the team either way. Diggs spent all of last season stashed on the Redskins injured reserve. Schooley, meanwhile, was put on the IR by the Steelers last year, but eventually got waived with an injury settlement. He had only been with the Redskins for a mere five days.

At the end of the day, the Redskins did not lose many impact players. Daniels was the one with the most upside, but he really did not figure to play into the rotation much anyway. This is just a classic example of a team trimming dead wood off the roster post-draft.
