NFL Top 100 Players of 2017: Which Washington Redskins will make the cut?
By Ian Cummings
Every May, the NFL Network numbers off the Top 100 players in the NFL for the upcoming season. Which Washington Redskins players proved they belong on the list with their play in 2016?
Players 100-81 will be announced today, Monday, May 1, and every week, the next 20 players will be revealed, until the number one player in the league finds his name called four weeks from now. Don’t expect a member of the Washington Redskins to take the number one slot, but expect improvement from 2016.
Last year, four Redskins players made the list. Kirk Cousins came in at No. 85, Jordan Reed locked down the No. 77 spot, Trent Williams found himself off the board at No. 45, and Josh Norman rounded off the Redskins at the No. 11 slot.
All four of those players have a good chance to make a return appearance this year, as all four players followed up their 2015 campaigns with solid seasons in 2016. In addition to those four, Ryan Kerrigan could join them. He bounced back into the double-digits with his sacks in 2016. Perennially underrated in the NFL community, Kerrigan has been one of the top Redskins’ players ever since his drafting in 2011.
Another Redskin who could make the list is Terrelle Pryor. After converting to wide receiver full-time last year, the 27-year-old put up over 1,000 yards receiving on 77 receptions, showcasing his spider-like hands and his impressive athleticism. He’s expected to make an even bigger impact on the Redskins, where he has a stellar supporting cast, as well as continuity at quarterback.
There are other solid players on the roster, but it would be a surprise if anyone else made the list. Redskins’ players tend to be unappreciated in the NFL community, but it could be a blessing in disguise. It could give them a chip on their shoulder in 2017.
