How far have we come since last year?

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

We’re a quarter of the way through the season and it is time to take stock.  Where are we now, and where have we been?  Last year, we had the bye week in week four, but after week 5, we were 3-1 and just like we are this year.
Last year at this time we just finished womping the Lions and it looked like the offense might have just made a huge leap forward.  Our only loss, strangely enough, was to the Giants.
So, 3-1 with a loss to the Giants, not much has changed right?  And yet so much has.  New [...]

Redskins Dominate Cowboys on the Line

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 32 Comments

More details later, but I had to get a post up so people could celebrate.  I’ve been celebrating with calls to friends and family or it would have already been up.  At any rate, despite sweating it out through an onside kick, we were fairly in control of a very good team.  Some quick stats:
161 to 44 was out rushing yard advantage.
Time of possession was 38:09 to 21:51 in our favor.
No turnovers.
That’s how you win a football game.
It could have easily been much more comfortable with Casey Rabach singlehandedly taking a TD off the board twice, not to mention Santana [...]

Tailgate Tips

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Okay, I know there’s no home game this week, but even on off weeks a tailgating expert is always trying to find ways to improve the game plan for the next home game.  Since last week we could only cover the absolute basics, I wanted to delve in a little deeper into the Fed Ex experience.
First, anyone who’s tailgated Fed Ex Field during the warmer months will know about the evolutionary oddity known as the Redskins Bees.  It seems that over the years, the bees have adapted to their environment, and they’ve learned that there is rewarding food and drink across [...]

Don’t make Campbell soup just yet

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Washington Redskins get to be in the unenviable position of trying to compete in a tough division with teams desperate to win now or coming into their prime. Still the team ahs the players and the defense challenge, not only for the NFC East title, but also for a real shot at Super Bowl tickets.
The two factors that will have the biggest impact on that potential are the health of the defense and the development of Jason Campbell. The defense can be dominating, putting pressure on the quarterback and covering everyone on [...]

Game Day Chatter: Cardinals versus Redskins

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

Once again the Redskins were subjected to a hot game-day, despite early predictions to the contrary.  Fortunately instead of near-100 degree record-breaking temperatures, it was merely very hot and sunny and in the mid-eighties.  Kudos for Snyder and the Redskins Park for making some changes to help keep fans from dropping like flies again this week; beer vendors were also noticably selling water this week when they made their rounds in the stands.  This is our last home game until mid-october so let’s hope that by then we won’t have to shell out an extra twenty for waters just to [...]

Redskins Win 24-17

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

What a nice, professional football win against a good team.  Yes, it could have been bigger without some key penalties, especially Stephon Heyer’s pointless hit to call back Devin Thomas’ big TD score.  But all three phases of the game were very solid.  Let’s take a look around:
The Special Teams
Jz gave Durrant Brooks an ear full after the missed 52 yarder, but the replay showed nothing unusual or difficult about the hold.  The speed and angle didn’t allow me to see where the laces were, but beyond that, I can’t imagine what the complaint was.
Otherwise, the special teams locked down [...]

Game Day Preview

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Cards are coming to town which used to mean a guaranteed win.  We’ve won 6 straight against the cards including a relatively close win on the road last year.  But this is not your father’s Cardinals team, or your grandfather’s Cardinals team, or even your great grandfather’s Cardinal’s team.  This is a well-coached, professional football team that has just as much a chance of winning the NFC West as anyone now that the Seahwaks wide receivers have committed mass suicide. To call it a good football team might be an exaggeration.  This is the kind of team that wins [...]

Tailgate Tips: Redskins vs. Cardinals

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

In the wake of one of the hottest Redskins home games in recent memory, I thought I’d start a new series designed to educate and share ideas and experiences at Fed Ex (and possibly other stadiums) so that we can all be better prepared to tailgate and enjoy the game in style.
I’ll start with some basics.  Parking lots open 4 hours before game time (9am this sunday) and the stadium opens 2 hours before game time (or 11am).  Expect a long line to get past security at the entrance, and they WILL pat you down and confiscate any booze they [...]
