John Lynch Last Piece of Redskins Super Bowl Puzzle

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

John Lynch has been reported as “considering his options” and has left Broncos camp today. The ESPN article quotes him as saying, “I’m going to explore all of my opportunities. Is it retirement? Maybe. Is it playing for another team? Maybe. [Coach] Mike [Shanahan] has given me the opportunity to explore that and that’s what I’m going to do. But I won’t be playing for the Broncos.”
Let me be the first to say, John, welcome to the Washington Redskins and thank you for the Super Bowl ring.
Think about it, John.  With Laron Landry playing free safety, you could play the hard [...]

A Hero’s Reward; Green and Monk to be Enshrined

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

It’s great to be a Redskins fan this weekend.  In case you’ve been living in a cave, Darryl Green and Art Monk are getting enshrined together this weekend.  I was close to road tripping to Canton myself but things didn’t quite pan out so I shall have to settle on the television like most of you.
In the days to come, we’ll have more on this event.  Until then, we’ll give you some reading material to tide you over while we wait.  Here’s a sneak peek at Art Monk’s speech, courtesy of KSK.

Cardinals Trying to Limit Cowboys Fans

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 18 Comments

Ever have a guest show up, behave rudely, stick around much longer than they should, track mud on your carpet and leave?  The Cards have, and they call them Dallas Cowboys fans. The Cards have announced a “protect the nest” program designed to keep those nasty Cowboys fans out of the stadium, and frankly I don’t blame them. Who would want to sit near a Cowboys fan?
At the same time, before Dan or some of our other “loyal” Cowboys fans try to spin this as showing how cool they are, this is really just an effort to make money.  They [...]

Dancin’ with the Skins

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 21 Comments

What a roller coaster ride for Redskins fans!
The season started out as a disaster.  We had players dropping like flies.  Phillip Daniels went down, possibly with a career ending knee injury. Promising defensive end Alex Buzbee also went down with a ruptured Achilles tendon.  Fred Smoot went down with a sprain that fortunately doesn’t seem to be too bad.  I was starting to have flashbacks of the infamous body bag game in Philly.  Not only were two of the injuries serious, but they were all in positions where we could ill afford to lose anyone.
But good ol’ Danny was not about to [...]

Devin Thomas Signs

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Devin Thomas signed a 4 year contract worth a total of $4.8 million today leaving Fred Davis the only unsigned Skins draft pick.
The incomparable Jason La Canfora also reports that a Fred Davis signing seems easy to do by the time camp opens on Monday.
Not much to say other than woohoo!

Derek Devine

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Kevin Linkins asked someone to make the case for Derek Devine being kept before former Maryland QB Sam Hollenbach.  For those who didn’t read the comment, he essentially pointed out that this was favoritism and that Devine couldn’t even make the Seahawks last year and there is no way he’s any good.
Well, I’ll make the case, Kevin.  Devine knows Zorn’s system.  He can help the other guys with nomenclature, reads, routes, and even tell him whether Zorn likes his coffee black or with cream.  Much like todd Collins was brought in when Al Saunders took over the offense, Devine was [...]

More on the Redskins Name

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 17 Comments

Since this struck such a chord on a weekend no less, I thought I would talk about it some more. I could be wrong, but this is why I think it is inevitable that we will eventually have to change the Redskins name.
1) It is difficult to argue that it is not racial offensive.  Even the logo isn’t particularly flattering with its depiction.  The only more racially insensitive logo in America is the laughing indian used in Cleveland.
2) The NCAA has taken the lead and is removing all native american names from its teams.  Lawsuits are pending in Kansas City, [...]

Redskins Win Lawsuit

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 14 Comments

A US Court of Appeals found in favor of the Redskins in the ongoing lawsuit over whether the name Redskins is offensive. This was based mostly on a technicality that the native americans that sued waited too long to file the suit. Essentially, they waited too long to be offended which frankly seems a bit silly to me.
I know this is controversial in the Redskins fan community, but seriously, we need to prepare for the inevitable reality that one day the Redskins will have a new name.  The name is genuinely offensive to some people, and you don’t need to [...]
