Skins Outsmart Other NFL Teams; Acquire Erasmus James

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 45 Comments

The Minnesota Vikings have traded Erasmus James to the Washington Redskins for a conditional 7th round pick.  You can read some of the details here, but it looks like the Vikings only get the pick if James makes the Roster. Everyone else was waiting like vultures for the Vikings to cut the talented but injured Defensive End.  The Washington Redskins showed some cunning by recognizing that they’d never be able to get him on waiver, but that they could get him from the Vikings to trade him for next to nothing.
The Vikings prosper because they get a chance to get something for nothing.  [...]

Is This a Bad Sign?

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Is this a bad sign or am I just reaching for something to talk about? According to Redskins.com Kedric Golston went to North Carolina to watch a NASCAR race and meet with coach Gibbs.
There are three ways to look at this.
1) Golston likes NASCAR and wanted to say hi to his old coach, and Redskins.com just had some space to fill.
2) Golston is no fan of Jim Zorn and wanted to be seen with Coach Gibbs to make a point.  Or maybe he wanted to ask coach if he would help fix some things he didn’t like.
3) Golston just likes [...]

ARL vs the Bears

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

In case you missed it, Antwaan Randle El was on ESPN’s First Take discussing whether he can beat a bear on a kick off return. The video is rather amusing once you get by the first minute or so:

Personally, I think given that we’ve won six straight games against the Bears and 8 of the last 10, it is clear Bears pose little danger to Redskins.
For those wishing to read more about ARL, the Rag interviewed him a few months ago during the season.  You can find that here. Enjoy.

Good Luck, Chris

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

I’m an arrogant guy.  I think my blog is the second most entertaining (if a bit sporadically written) Redskins blog around.  But I could write ten posts a day and never reach the level of entertainment that is Chris Cooley’s blog. The topless pictures of his wife-to-be alone make it impossible to top. I’d show them here but of course I don’t have copyright.
Anyway, follow the link.  Oggle his wife (he clearly wants you to).  Have fun getting a glimpse into the crazy but thrilling mind of Chris Cooley.
While on the subject, Chris is getting married on Friday.  We wish him all [...]

Washington Redskins are 2010 Super Bowl Champs

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 16 Comments

Yes, my friends and fellow Redskins fans, the bomb dropped.  The best of all bombs.  The short-sighted, stupendously dumb for small market teams, blockbuster bomb was dropped.  What am I talking about?  I’m talking about how the cheapskate owners ditched the CBA today. Barring a new agreement, and let’s face it, there is no incentive for players or about half the owners to come to one, the 2010 season will be played with no salary cap.
Essentially that means the Redskins, Cowboys, Patriots, and Seahawks (if Paul Allen and his massive amount of wealth feels like playing at a loss) will be [...]

Some News Including More Sean Taylor Trial News

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 16 Comments

A fifth person was arrested in connection to the Sean Taylor case today according to ESPN. Details were scant other than the fact that the kid was 16.  You know, the more I hear about this case the more I picture it going down like Scooby Doo.  Five cowering kids breaking into a house to make a little money and everyone of them piled up real close like they do in the cartoons, knees shaking.  And some fool kid has a gun and instead of just saying “zoinks” he fires.  Maybe I’m naive.  Maybe I’m too easy on the kids, [...]

Sean Taylor Trial News

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

According to ESPN and other sources, the prosecutor has taken the death penalty off the table in the Sean Taylor case.  Depending on who you believe, this was either because the shooter was 17 or because they couldn’t proove premediated murder. I’m more inclined to believe the latter given that many states seem to be killing kids under 18 these days.
Regardless of how you feel about the death penalty (and for the record, I oppose it), this seems fair enough to me.  They went there to rob the place and were surprised. That just doesn’t strike me as a death penalty [...]

Chris Henry: Will Catch Football for Food

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 16 Comments

All is quiet on the Redskins Front.  In other news however, Chris Henry announced that, yes,  he’s still available.   His voice mail may be acting up because he hasn’t been getting as many calls as he might have expected.  Also, because he is not allowed to bring camera phones into court, he may have missed a few calls.  So if any of you NFL officials out there are looking for a soon-to-be-suspended wide receiver, you might need to try him again on his new cellphone.  Pretty please?
Henry has targeted the Cowboys and Saints organizations as the most gullible, saying that he would love [...]

Stripe Hype Under Seige

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Our fellow Fan-Sided bloggers at Striphype have been threatened with a law suit by their very own Bengals.  In one of the strangest moves by a team I’ve seen, the Bengals are saying that a web site devoted to promoting their team in a loving fashion is violating copyright by among other things trying to give away a jersey to fans and by using pictures that the Bengals don’t own copyright to themselves. Details here.
Now, let me put this out there.  As many of you know, I work for a business magazine as my day job.  I am incredibly aware [...]

Redskins Minicamp: the Good and the Bad

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Jokes aside, there’s some actual NFL action going on this weekend and it’s time to comment about it. We’ve got our first glimpse of our 2008 Washington Redskins.
The Redskins Insider at the Washington Post does a great job of capturing some of the feel of this weekend that I’m going to send you to them to read about it.  Some highlights include…

Jim Zorn seems to have reasonable control over the team.  I like what little I see and the players (with one exception, see below) seem to respect and believe in him.
Fred Davis missed practice today and the Redskins didn’t know where [...]
