Chief Zee is one of the greatest Skins’ fans ever and this is a great interview of him. At the 1:07 mark, Zee starts talking about our boy, John Riggins. Listen as Zee says “Crank up the Diesel, Crank up the Diesel. On, On, Crank up the Diesel.” Listen to all the other great stories from him bringing a hog on the field, to the greatest Skins team (1983), and his opinion of the greatest Skins’ players.

Interview with Chief Zee
Nervous Nellies at the Post
The glass is half-empty over at the Post lately. Jason La Canfora’s article in the Post today essentially says the same thing an article from Redskins.com said a few days ago. That is that Jason Campbell will play on Thursday if he’s healthy. But these were the headlines:
Post- Campbell Says He’s Willing, but Is His Knee Able?
Redskins.com- Campbell Says He’s Ready to Play
What’s up with all the gloom, Post? Both articles quote Coach Gibbs saying Campbell will only play if he’s 100%. Both articles quote Campbell saying the knee is still sore. Both quote Campbell talking about how important it [...]
Put Him in the Briggs
Isn’t it convenient that just when the Mike Vick saga is over that Lance Briggs is providing us with some new tabloid quality highlights.
Let’s see, Lance, you were driving your $350K sports car at 3:15 AM in the middle of your practice week and had a wreck. You decided not to report it and instead went home either via a friend or via a cab. Let’s take a quiz shall we? Let’s consider these four options:
a) You knew you were out way too late and you didn’t want Coach Lovie Smith to know about it.
b) You were driving drunk and [...]
And Some Bad News For Some
The Redskins announced the first round of cuts on the way to cutting down to 75. The Casualties were:
Jerametrius Butler, CB
Jamaal Green, DE
Kevin Jones, LB
Jerel Myers, WR
Todd Pinkston, WR
Bryant Shaw, DE
Most of these weren’t surprises, especially Pinkston who we have seen suck twice a year in Philly for years. Of course, most people would sheepishly hide from the fact that they went on record comparing the Butler signing to the Shawn Springs signing. I embrace my errors with the same public lack of humility that I embrace my correct predictions.
Anyway, the roster is stacked with DBs and someone had to [...]
More Good News
Redskins.com put up some very good news earlier today. Clinton Portis is healthy enough to up his work load and will be considered day to day for Thursday’s exhibition game against Jacksonville.
And if that isn’t good enough, Marcus Washington had the sling taken off his dislocated elbow today. He is going to practice, and will be back for the season opener.
And if that wasn’t good enough, Chris Samuels is “getting close” to returning to practice and is also slated for a return for the season opener.
And if that wasn’t good enough, Pete Kendall has the playbook and conditioning and all down [...]
I don’t really have much to say about this article in the Post about Mike Puccilo except that I think this has to be some sort of tacit apology for ripping Pucillo and Heyer last week after the Steelers game.
Last week I quoted Coach Gibbs and Coach Bugel laying into the Post for comments about the struggling left side of our line. The frustrating part for the coaching staff and for me was that the article was about the organization’s failings but at the same time was rather personal in calling out two young men who were being forced into a [...]
Whew! We Made it!
To be honest, I didn’t see the game on Saturday. Between the weather delays and family obligations I just didn’t fit it in. But even if I had seen it my response would have been the same– Woohoo! We made it through the game without a significant injury, we put a pass longer than 10 yards on film for other teams to be concerned with, and we won. Nice night all around as far as I’m concerned.
Given the weather, the spate (do American’s ever use the word spate anymore except when talking about injuries?) of injuries we’ve already suffered, and [...]
One Last Word on Vick
Now that both the plea agreement and the NFL suspension has come down, it seems time to take a minute and look at the aftermath. Yes, Vick still has some jail time to deal with, but for us fans it is essentially over. For Vick, it is just beginning, but like every other scandal we’ll move on and only check in once and awhile when some reporter needs to fill some column inches with a story about how Vick gets special treatment.
The press is full of stories like this one from Michael Wilbon. All of the writers and reporters are [...]
Not a lot going on news-wise since we’re playing the Ravens tonight. But there is a good chat on Extreme Skins with Jason Campbell. The questions were pretty mundane but Campbell answered them with some flair.
Can I make one request of folks on these chats from now on? Can we please stop asking the charcoal vs. propane question? First off, it doesn’t really reveal anything about a person’s character or personal tastes. Outside of Hank Hill no one really takes more than 10 seconds to think about this stuff in their whole lives. Second, rich football players don’t cook! These [...]
Beasely and a Clarification
In what is likely the least important roster move to ever be announced by any team at any time, the Redskins announced that they signed veteran fullback Fred Beasley. Yawn. The only people interested in this are probably Beasley’s wife and kids who have to move across the country and Pete Schmitt who is likely going to be cut.
On another note, yesterday I reported that the NFL network said that we were trading a conditional 2009 pick. In fact, Jason La Confora reported that it is a 2008 5th rounder or a 2009 4th rounder if Kendall plays 80% of [...]
