Julian Good-Jones - Commanders OL
The Washington Commanders' decision to release starting center Tyler Biadasz remains the most contentious move of 2026. Adam Peters hasn't disclosed the reasons, opting to keep them in-house. But making sure the correct replacement is fully up to speed over the summer is crucial.
Nick Allegretti could be in line to get the first shot. The veteran was touted as a potential salary-cap casualty this offseason, but he surprisingly received an early extension instead. Giving him a free run to the starting job wouldn't be smart, and sixth-round rookie Matt Gulbin has some intriguing tools that could make things interesting with a smooth transition.
Both Allegretti and Gulbin are locks to make the team. The Commanders also have an emergency center in Brandon Coleman, who took reps there during practice throughout the 2025 season. That doesn't exactly bode well for Julian Good-Jones' aspirations of keeping his place on the squad when Washington trims the fat to 53.
Jeremy McNichols - Commanders RB
Adam Peters appears to be moving forward with a running back committee. That would have changed if Jeremiyah Love somehow made it down to the Commanders at No. 7 overall in the draft, but he was long gone by the time they went on the clock.
The Commanders weren't left empty-handed, taking Kaytron Allen on Day 3. He's not the most agile, but he could be a punishing presence between the tackles on early downs. With Rachaad White and Jerome Ford both signed in free agency to go alongside Jacory Croskey-Merritt, the battle for reps this summer will be one of the more fascinating dynamics to watch.
There is also Jeremy McNichols to factor into the equation. The veteran got a new one-year deal this offseason, despite an up-and-down year. His leadership and special-teams contributions are highly thought of by the coaching staff, but his roster spot is not guaranteed after Allen's arrival.
Sam Hartman - Commanders QB
The Commanders' hopes of bouncing back next season are almost entirely dependent on quarterback Jayden Daniels staying healthy. Marcus Mariota is a capable backup who signed another one-year deal this offseason, but Washington will only go as far as its franchise player takes them.
Daniels featured just seven times last season, completing four contests. Mariota also dealt with injury problems late in the campaign, leaving the Commanders turning to Josh Johnson. Adam Peters didn't want the same to happen again, spending a seventh-round draft pick on Athan Kaliakmanis.
While Kaliakmanis dealt with some severe accuracy issues during the 2024 season, he showed signs of life in his final year at Rutgers. The Commanders believe there is enough to develop, which could place even more heat on Sam Hartman along the way.
Hartman's been on the practice squad for the last two years. He's popular in the locker room and has developed a close relationship with Daniels. But the Commanders don't have the luxury of being sentimental about any decision.
