The Commanders reportedly won't be taking this one any further.

The Washington Commanders are still looking for another productive wide receiver to put alongside Terry McLaurin. Speculation remains about Brandon Aiyuk's arrival when his time with the San Francisco 49ers finally reaches a messy conclusion, but general manager Adam Peters isn't putting all his eggs into that basket.

Most are expecting the Commanders to address this need during the 2026 NFL Draft. Peters has enough money remaining to find someone not named Aiyuk on the free-agent market. But according to one respected team insider, arguably the best remaining option is not being considered right now.

It's somewhat surprising to see Jauan Jennings without a home at this stage. The wideout was productive for the San Francisco 49ers, who got more than they bargained for out of a seventh-round pick. But it seems like the NFC West club has moved on after signing Mike Evans and Christian Kirk in free agency.

Commanders choose to go in a different direction than Jauan Jennings, team insider says

Some around the league believe Jennings has priced himself out of the early market. That's unknown, but John Keim of ESPN got the sense that the Commanders had moved in a different direction.

Whether there was any approach from the Commanders is anyone's guess. One couldn't rule out the notion, especially with Peters' previous connection to the player.

Peters was in San Francisco's front office when the Niners took Jennings at No. 217 overall in the 2021 draft. He went on to accumulate 210 receptions for 2,581 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns in the five years after, but it's not been enough for anyone to take the plunge as yet.

This may have something to do with how Jennings is perceived around the league. Whether it was his altercation with Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig or Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Shelby Harris' verbal tirade against his on-field antics, it didn't exactly paint him in a good light. And he may be paying for it now.

As for the Commanders? They've acquired Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson Jr. to provide additional competition further down the depth chart. But if they want to bounce back in 2026, David Blough's offense needs more dynamism, regardless of whether Aiyuk joins or not.

Peters will have contingencies in place. He'll have half an eye on Aiyuk's situation in San Francisco. He will be running the rule over several intriguing draft prospects from another good wide receiver class. He might have another veteran in mind, and there is always a chance to bring back Deebo Samuel Sr. if the price is right.

Either way, the speculation around Jennings won't be going any further. And if Peters doesn't want him in Washington, there must be a good reason.
