General manager Adam Peters had some primary objectives in mind during his crucial third offseason at the helm. He wanted the Washington Commanders to get younger and more energetic. He also wanted to raise competition across the board.

He successfully achieved these goals.

The Commanders turned over every stone to make the desired improvements. Peters was aggressive in free agency and found real value during the 2026 NFL Draft. Things look a lot better, and fans are expecting a big turnaround from head coach Dan Quinn's squad when the regular season arrives.

Urgency has also been increased exponentially. The tension and demands throughout the summer will be high. Some will thrive in the pressure cooker, while others will wilt in the spotlight. And make no mistake; Peters and Quinn will be watching developments closely.

With this in mind, here are eight Commanders cuts that look almost inevitable before the 2026 season, though there is still plenty of time for that to change.

Jerome Ford - Commanders RB

The Commanders revamped their running back room this offseason, but not everyone in the room will make the 53-man roster.

Jacory Croskey-Merrit is looking to build on his rookie surge against all odds. Free-agent signing Rachaad White reunites with his former college quarterback, Jayden Daniels, which brings significant intrigue. Jeremy McNichols was re-signed, with his leadership and special-teams efforts providing value. The Commanders also spent a Day 3 pick on Kaytron Allen, who could be another steal.

There is also Jerome Ford. His production has dipped in recent years, and he was a bit-part player for the Cleveland Browns in 2025. Unless that changes, he may be the odd man out.

Ja'Corey Brooks - Commanders WR

It's a crowded wide receiver room in Washington. While the quality is not perceived to be high right now, the competition for spots is glaring. And there could be even more signings on the way in the very near future.

The margin for error has completely gone for those on the roster bubble. Ja'Corey Brooks is among them. He was one of the pleasant surprises to emerge in camp last summer, but it wasn't quite enough to make the 53-man roster. The wideout stuck around on the practice squad, though opportunities on the active game-day team were limited.

Last season's experience around the setup should serve Brooks well as he enters Year 2 of his NFL journey. At the same time, he remains in a precarious situation.
