Trent Williams’ Commanders snub adds an edge to their prime-time upset bid

It's like that, huh?

One notable subplot in the Washington Commanders' trip to the San Francisco 49ers for Monday Night Football will be the strong ties between members of both organizations. And offensive tackle Trent Williams just gave his old team prime bulletin-board material.

Williams spent nine seasons in D.C. before he was traded to the 49ers amidst an ugly dispute with the team's medical staff and ownership. Now, the star left tackle is regarded as a future Pro Football Hall of Famer and one of the greatest to ever play his position.

Trent Williams disrespected the Commanders, and we'll see how they put up with it

And he's still not mincing words about the franchise that drafted him.

Williams doesn't sound bitter about how his situation unfolded in Washington.

Instead, he's just over it.

Yikes. You hear that, Commanders edge rushers? Make this guy's life a nightmare on the field, would you?

Even at 38, Williams is still playing at a Pro Bowl-caliber level. Getting the better of him will be a tall task, but we'll see if Odafe Oweh and K'Lavon Chaisson can give him anything to remember about Washington after this one is over.

The Commanders already have their backs against the wall after last week's brutal overtime ending against the New York Giants. Now, they should have some extra motivation for their prime-time showdown.

Trent Williams' strained relationship with Washington is understandable, but it's still sad to see

Where Williams is concerned, you can't blame him for taking his shots.

The team mishandled a cancerous growth in his head, which could have had serious ramifications on more than just Williams' football career. Still, it's disheartening, though the trade worked out pretty well for the player and not so much for Washington.

Williams is still one of the best players to suit up for Washington since the turn of the century. He was every bit the dominant force here that he's been in San Francisco; he just didn't get the All-Pro recognition for it because the team didn't win much.

Being reminded of the Williams saga now has to be a humiliating feeling for every Commanders fan.

He's better off from the breakup. We're not. And he's just out here taunting us about it, telling us the positive memories we made don't even mean anything to him.

There's only one thing Washington can do. Go into Levi's Stadium and pull off the upset in front of the entire NFL world.

Then, if Williams' name manages to surface in any post-game press: Trent who?
