It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Washington Commanders' wide receiver room isn't up to the required standard right now. Aside from Terry McLaurin, there are no proven contributors. Unless one of the young players breaks out, new offensive coordinator David Blough could have a real problem.

Fortunately, there is still time to rectify this issue. Brandon Aiyuk remains hotly linked. But before his saga with the San Francisco 49ers concludes, there is the 2026 NFL Draft for general manager Adam Peters to navigate.

And one respected league insider highlighted a potential wildcard for the Commanders at No. 7 overall that fans can no longer ignore.

Tom Pelissero could see Jordyn Tyson being in play for the Commanders

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network thought Arizona State wideout Jordyn Tyson could be in play for the Commanders, depending on how the board shakes out. His exceptional production in college could greatly help Washington. However, the insider thought this was almost entirely dependent on how comfortable Peters is with the medical history.

“Could that be Jordyn Tyson? You certainly could see it. The tape is so good, the good is so good on tape. It’s just a matter of getting comfortable with a guy with a very long injury history.”

Tyson is a tremendous prospect, but the concerns are real. He missed the entire 2023 campaign with a serious knee injury. His 2024 campaign ended abruptly due to a collarbone injury. Last season and throughout the pre-draft process, he was dealing with a hamstring strain.

No fewer than 18 teams were in attendance for Tyson's individual workout on Friday. The Commanders were among those taking a closer look at the prospect, so it'll be interesting to see if the session was enough to tip the scales.

Nobody disputes Tyson's promise as a professional. He's a fluid route runner who glides effortlessly in and out of his breaks. The former Sun Devil makes the ridiculous look routine, and questions about his competitiveness were quashed in no uncertain terms by Hines Ward, his college wide receiver coach.

On his best day, and without the health concerns, Tyson is arguably the best receiver in this class. What the Commanders must figure out is whether any further lingering issues will arrive, because they cannot afford to get their choice at No. 7 overall wrong.

If Peters and his staff are satisfied with the medical assessments, Tyson will be on the shortlist. But there is just no telling how things are going to play out with so much unpredictability at the top end of this year's draft.

Pelissero fanned the flames. And if he's considering the possibility, the Commanders probably are as well.
