The Washington Commanders have been busy this offseason. Adam Peters and his staff have worked tirelessly, turning over every stone to fill roster holes such as the offensive line, defensive line, secondary, and wide receiver depth.

Washington has signed 20 different players as free agents. That's not even counting the two massive blockbuster trades that Peters was able to complete. Out of all the new (or returning) additions, here are five that figure to be the most impactful during the 2025 campaign.

These rankings are based on the outlook for the upcoming season and how much each player — whether it be a free agency signing, trade acquisition, or contract extension — might move the needle when competitive action begins.

Ranking the five best Commanders offseason additions in 2025 (so far)

5. Deebo Samuel Sr. - Commanders WR

Had this move been made last offseason, it might rank No. 1. However, Deebo Samuel Sr. struggled in 2024, specifically with drops, and recorded the fewest yards per game of his career (44.7).

Still, for a team that has never had a consistent threat opposite wide receiver Terry McLaurin, the six-year veteran fills an important need. If Samuel can return to his 2021 Pro Bowl performance levels or even his 2023 form in which he accounted for 12 total touchdowns, the move will pay off handsomely.

4. Jonathan Jones - Commanders CB

Of the new additions the Commanders have brought in as free agents, Jonathan Jones is one of the most notable names as a long-time member of the New England Patriots who was a part of two Super Bowl-winning teams.

He's racked up 11 career interceptions. Though he hasn't had one since 2022, Jones did force two fumbles a season ago. He'll give Washington some cornerback depth behind Marshon Lattimore and Mike Sainristil providing some more veteran leadership as well.

3. Will Harris - Commanders S

Last season, linebacker Frankie Luvu emerged out of relative obscurity to be the prize of Washington's free agent class. This may be a bold call, but if there's any player who can do that this time around, it's Will Harris.

He's a versatile safety who has bounced around the league. Harris was buried on the depth chart with the Detroit Lions and played out of position with the New Orleans Saints. He'll have a featured role for the Commanders after replacing Jeremy Chinn, who left for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Harris represents the type of player who Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. should be able to get the most out of.

2. Bobby Wagner - Commanders LB

Anytime you can sign a future Pro Football Hall of Famer on a cheap veteran deal, you must do it. The Commanders brought in Bobby Wagner last season to help turn around the culture at the tail end of his career. They got the bonus of his 10th Pro Bowl season in 13 years.

Wagner now returns to Washington for at least one more go-around. Until he shows signs of slowing down, the longtime Seattle Seahawks star should project to once again be one of the team's most impactful defenders.

1. Laremy Tunsil - Commanders OT

Laremy Tunsil, by a fairly wide margin, is the most significant player the Commanders have added or re-signed during the 2025 offseason. Most importantly, he addresses one of the team's biggest needs on the offensive line, which gave up 50 sacks in 2024.

Tunsil is one of the league's most prolific left tackles. He's secured five Pro Bowl appearances in the past six seasons, and he's still only 30 years old.

The magnitude of acquiring a player of Tunsil's caliber who is still at the absolute peak of his career is something Washington hasn't reached in many years. It should easily be the biggest needle-mover in turning the Commanders from a Super Bowl hopeful into a legitimate contender.
