Another divisional road game awaits the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Dan Quinn returns to familiar surroundings when his team travels to the Dallas Cowboys, which is always a hotly contested affair between two historically bitter rivals.
The Cowboys have had a quiet summer, which isn't a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination. Wide receiver George Pickens signed his franchise tag and will play on it. Almost no other controversies have emerged, which doesn't fit how the franchise typically does business under flamboyant owner Jerry Jones.
Dallas is expecting to surprise people this season. Their defense should be improved, and everyone knows how potent their offense is. It'll be a stern test of the Commanders' credentials, so Daronte Jones' defensive scheme must come through when it counts.
Jones promises more pressure, more creativity, and more aggression in Washington's defense. He's got the personnel to make it happen, but coming up against the Cowboys so early in the season represents a stern litmus test.
On offense, this is all about controlling the clock. The longer Dallas' offense is off the field, the better Washington's chance becomes. That will be easier said than done, so David Blough must figure out ways to establish the run and make things easier for quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Prediction: Loss (1-1)
This hasn't been Washington's happiest hunting ground over the years. It should be a close game, but Quinn may come unstuck against his old employers.
Commanders vs. Seahawks - Week 3

The Commanders' first home game of the 2026 season is a tough one. And that might be an understatement.
Washington welcomes the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks to Northwest Stadium in Week 3. While Mike Macdonald's squad lost some key personnel over the offseason, they have more than enough quality to make a strong postseason run once again.
Quarterback Sam Darnold has silenced his doubters. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is among the league's most prolific pass-catchers. Macdonald's defense is fast, aggressive, and leaves its mark from start to finish. It'll be extremely testing, but these are the games Dan Quinn and his players should be relishing.
Very few will be picking the Commanders to win this one. The Seahawks were comfortably the league's best team last season, and they're not getting complacent.
Macdonald, who was in the running for Washington's head-coaching job, wants more. And if the Commanders want to cause a major upset, they have to be nearly flawless with the home crowd cheering them on.
Washington's hopes — both in this game and throughout the campaign — rest on the shoulders of Jayden Daniels. He's got the dynamic skills to take over games, no matter the opposition. The signal-caller cannot do it alone, but he's a big-game performer who lives for moments just like this.
Prediction: Loss (1-2)
The Commanders have nothing to lose and everything to gain. But this might be a step too far so early in the season.
