Excitement is building around the Washington Commanders heading into the 2024 season. It's been an offseason of wholesale changes across the board as Josh Harris' ownership group put their ambitious plans into motion. The front office infrastructure and playing personnel look almost unrecognizable from that which concluded the previous campaign, which was necessary after how things unfolded during Ron Rivera's final year at the helm.

With free agency and the NFL Draft officially in the rearview mirror, everyone associated with the Commanders is eagerly awaiting the 2024 schedule release. It normally happens a this time every year, but it was relatively quiet in terms of developments aside from Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay hinting that confirmation was close.

Now, we have a date for the diary.

When is the 2024 NFL schedule announced?

According to Ben Fischer from the Sports Business Journal, those around the league were informed that the release would become public knowledge at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, May 15. This normally comes with great fanfare as social media staff teams produce high-quality videos that whet the appetite further for what might be ahead.

It won't be much longer before fans can start planning trips and identifying which games to attend. We know who the Commanders are playing. We don't know the structure in terms of dates and when the all-important bye week arrives.

Here's what we know so far;

Commanders 2024 home games

In addition to the annual NFC East division battles, Washington takes on members of the NFC South, AFC South, and AFC North at the newly-named Commanders Field. Harris and his wealthy benefactors are busing making substantial upgrades to the site to provide a better fan experience next season. However, the big goal remains forming plans for a new, state-of-the-art stadium befitting one of the league's most historic franchises.

Home games:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Tennessee Titans
  • Chicago Bears

Commanders 2024 away games

The Commanders face some tricky tests on the road, including three teams who'll harbor legitimate hopes of making a deep playoff run to the Super Bowl. There are also some winnable contests if everything comes together quickly under the expert guidance of head coach Dan Quinn and his accomplished staff.

Away games:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Cincinnati Bengals

Things are still hanging precariously for the Commanders heading into the new campaign. Many believe they could become one of the NFL's surprise packages if all these new faces mesh together quicker than anticipated. Others think it might be a longer road back to prosperity. The truth is somewhere in between.

Hopefully, the schedule can be a favorable one structurally for the Commanders. Fortunately for fans, there isn't too much longer to wait.
