The Washington Commanders have a lot of momentum currently. This means no fan wants to be thinking about what needs the team could potentially fill during the 2025 NFL Draft. However, every week some holes continue to be crystal clear.

General manager Adam Peters and the rest of the front office are likely already planning on how they can fill up those issues during their second offseason with Washington. The respected former San Francisco 49ers executive has a long-term plan in place and knows how to build a successful roster for sustained profitability.

According to Tankathon, the Commanders currently hold nine picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. This should be more than enough to at least fill some of the holes with gifted prospects from the college ranks. Time will tell which ones become more worrisome than others over the next 13 games.

Commanders select Travis Hunter in 2025 NFL mock draft

A draft analyst who is already speculating how the first round may go is Josh Edwards of CBS Sports, who has the Commanders sitting at No. 11 overall in his latest mock draft despite their outstanding start. The selection was two-way phenom Travis Hunter out of Colorado.

""Washington appears to have found their quarterback because Jayden Daniels has been sensational. Terry McLaurin is finally producing the way many expect from a player of his caliber. Travis Hunter Jr. can create explosive plays opposite McLaurin.""

Josh Edwards, CBS Sports

It seems that Edwards sees Hunter contributing more as a wide receiver rather than a cornerback for Washington. The phenomenal prospect would likely be a standout on both sides of the ball for the Commanders. Whether they'll be in a position to take him is another matter.

The Commanders are riding on the crest of a wave following three straight victories. Their offense is humming and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels looks like a superstar. Washington's defense also progressed over the final three quarters at the Arizona Cardinals, so everything is coming together nicely.

There is a lot of speculation on how NFL teams see Hunter and where that will settle his draft stock. Some people see him as a top-three pick, while others like Edwards view him as more of an early teens selection.

Hunter is an extremely talented athlete, and that athleticism should translate to the NFL. His exceptional ball skills from playing receiver allow him to create interceptions and pass breakups on defense easily. His football IQ allows him to adjust routes in zone coverage and articulate what the opposing offense is doing. His versatility to be great on both offense and defense is an elite trait.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Hunter has decent size for an NFL wide receiver and good length for a professional cornerback. The only issue with his size is he might be a little too slim versus bigger wideouts in the league.

Hunter's technique likely needs some work since playing on both sides might slow down his specification development. Luckily, his athleticism helps him out tremendously.

The Commanders have a huge need at both wide receiver and cornerback. Washington has yet to find the right guy opposite Terry McLaurin. Hunter gives the versatility to fill each need, but he might be long gone by the time Peters goes on the clock.
