3. Larry Brown - Former Commanders RB
As the only former league MVP on this list, an argument can undoubtedly be made for Larry Brown to be higher in these rankings. But landing in the top three considering the talent available to the Washington Commanders throughout history is no mean feat.
Almost completely deaf in one ear, Brown surpassed all expectations after being drafted in the eighth round of the 1969 NFL Draft following a less-than-stellar college career at Kansas State. To say he put this chip on his shoulder to good use would be a massive understatement.
Legendary coach Vince Lombardi gave Brown the starting job, which was a masterstroke. The former Wildcat went on to make four Pro Bowls and earn two All-Pro selections during his impressive eight-year career with Washington.
Brown twice topped 1,000 yards rushing in the District and during his 1972 NFL MVP season averaged over 100 yards per game on the ground. This helped lead Washington to its first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
This is a true rags-to-riches story that continues to inspire the current generation.
