9. Commanders TEs

Zach Ertz used to kill the Washington Commanders annually. That was about five years ago. I’m not sure he has anything left in the tank at this point.

Cole Turner has shown nothing. Armani Rogers has been hurt. John Bates is a blocker first and foremost. This group does not inspire confidence.

The only silver lining is that Washington has not had quality tight end play since Logan Thomas’ last fully healthy season in 2020. So if Ertz can give them anything - or if one of the kids can step up - it will be an upgrade over recent years. Look for the Commanders to take a tight end in the mid-to-late rounds in this year’s draft.

8. Commanders QBs

The Commanders will have a new starting quarterback in 2024. He will almost certainly be drafted in Round No. 1. It may be Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels. A recent rumor has J.J. McCarthy zooming up draft boards after a standout evaluation process. We will know who Adam Peters has chosen soon enough.

But right now, they have Marcus Mariota, Jake Fromm, and Jeff Driskel. Not exactly a murderer’s row.

Mariota is more likable than most fans seem to think, which is why quarterbacks aren’t at the bottom of this list. He could be a decent spot starter and a very good backup. Fromm and Driskel are mostly veteran bodies to hold the fort in case of emergency. As such, they are fine, though both could be gone if Peters finds a young undrafted free agent he likes once the draft concludes.
