Commanders vs. Bears - Week 8

  • Date: Sunday, October 27
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Venue: Northwest Stadium

If the Washington Commanders are sitting at 5-2 by this time, expectations will be through the roof. Dan Quinn's new-look unit will be firmly in the NFC East title picture with a return to the playoffs in sight. There's still a long way to go, but the excitement will only grow if they can build on a sensational opening to the campaign.

The Chicago Bears visit Northwest Stadium in Week 8. There will be plenty of hype surrounding the game thanks to the first NFL meeting between Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams - the top two selections in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jay Glazer from FOX Sports recently revealed that the Commanders had Daniels ahead of Williams on their draft board. Make of that what you will, but the Commanders are sitting pretty with the Heisman Trophy winner out of LSU right now as the Bears' great hope goes through some growing pains.

Chicago remains competitive at 2-2 despite things not clicking fully as yet. Cohesion should have improved drastically by this point, which is a challenge the Commanders' defense must be ready for. If they can find ways to confuse Williams, mistakes will follow.

Again, this isn't a guaranteed success by any stretch of the imagination. Williams is going to be a good quarterback. He's got the likes of D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, Keenan Allen, and Cole Kmet to rely on in the passing game. Chicago's defense also has former Commanders pass-rusher Montez Sweat, who'll be out for revenge after being stung by his trade to the NFC North outfit before the 2023 deadline.

  • Prediction: Commanders win (6-2)

Being 6-2 at the midway point would be beyond the wildest dreams of fans before the season. Looking at Washington's current trajectory and the contests upcoming on the schedule, it's gone from a bold outlook to a realistic expectation. Something that will make Adam Peters' approach to the 2024 trade deadline extremely interesting.
