The Washington Commanders didn't care much about the hearsay and speculation surrounding Jayden Daniels having his heart set on playing elsewhere. They think he has what it takes to lead the franchise back to the promised land, making him the No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft after months of thorough assessments.

In truth, the conjecture surrounding Daniels was blown out of all proportion. Had the signal-caller had a personal say in the matter, there's no doubt the allure of working alongside Antonio Pierce once again would have appealed more than most. Unfortunately for him, the NFL doesn't work like that.

Daniels is professional enough to know that, or at least he should be. The Heisman Trophy winner out of LSU is going to give it his all in pursuit of becoming one of the league's most prolific players under center. And besides, this is not the same toxic organization it once was.

Jayden Daniels eager to spearhead Commanders' new era

There is purpose, ambition, and a common goal to get the Commanders out of the NFL wilderness and back to their rightful place among the elite. Daniels is going to play a big part in that, something that didn't go unnoticed by the signal-caller when speaking following his trip to the stage.

"I'm just happy and I'm blessed... It's going to be a grind and I'm going to work. I'm a hard worker."

This was the perfect response. One that should put every Commanders fan's mind at ease if they were having any doubts about the player's commitment to the cause. Rest assured, if Adam Peters wasn't 100 percent convinced in Daniels' character away from the gridiron, he'd have gone with Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy.

Let this short yet purposeful statement turn the page on a long, tiresome saga. Daniels is an unassuming individual who doesn't like spending too much time divulging information to the media. That'll probably change over time, but it's also worth remembering this is a kid looking to make his way rather than a seasoned pro.

In terms of experience on the field, Daniels looks more than ready to hit the ground running. He's projected by most analysts to be the most pro-ready quarterback in this class. Some have gone one step further, proclaiming that he'll end up having a better career than Caleb Williams when it's all said and done.

Daniels also looks like a magnificent fit within Kliff Kingsbury's offensive scheme. Looking at the success he's had with the likes of Kyler Murray and Patrick Mahomes in previous jobs, there's a lot to like about the potential chemistry to conjure magic between the play-caller and his new man under center. If the relationship blossoms immediately, it's all systems go.

And after working so hard to reach the pinnacle of this great profession, Danels is not to let anything stand in his way.
