Expectations for projected Commanders starting wide receivers in 2024
Commanders need Dyami Brown to show up
Dyami Brown has been a bust so far. After being a dominant wide receiver at the University of North Carolina, he was taken with the No. 82 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and was supposed to make an immediate impact. That didn't happen.
Brown has been almost non-existent other than a few big catches. He has yet to top 200 receiving yards in any of his three seasons to date.
Hopefully, the change of management will breathe new life into Brown. He won't have his former college teammate Sam Howell throwing to him anymore, but that could be a good thing as he looks to redefine himself with Jayden Daniels slinging the rock.
Don't expect Brown to come in and make the humongous difference that the top three receivers should be able to make. But in Kliff Kingsbury's offense, Commanders fans will likely see several different packages that involve the former third-round pick being deployed vertically.
The major blow to him - not that it would be a terrible thing for the Commanders - would be if the tight end room finally produces some very good results. This could see a guy like rookie Ben Sinnott take Brown's targets in heavy pass situations.
As the team's current No. 4 receiver, Brown has a chance to prove himself. He's flashed on occasion. He's also fast. But what he could add to the team this year coincides directly with one of the best traits of Jayden Daniels - his deep ball accuracy.
The best thing you will find on Brown's tape from the player's time with the Tar Heels is his ability to catch the deep ball. He was phenomenal at it. If he and Daniels can develop a rapport, that could finally translate into the NFL and give this Washington team the fourth receiver that could make them a nightmare to gameplan against.
Don't get your hopes up on Dyami Brown. But he is a jack-in-the-box who could reap rewards if a deep-ball connection with Daniels is generated.
