Commanders vs. Cardinals Week 1 Odds
Washington is -230 on the moneyline and -6 on the spread to beat what’s expected to be one of the worst teams in the league – especially with the departure of DeAndre Hopkins, injury to Kyler Murray and a new head coach in Jonathan Gannon.
The Commanders didn’t make any major offseason additions, but the key part here is that they didn’t take a step back, either. Washington was a middle-of-the-pack team that had a sluggish offense (24th in points per game) and a strong defense last season (8th in opponents points per game).
Arizona, meanwhile, struggled across the board, especially in games in which Kyler Murray didn’t play. The Cardinals ranked 31st in opponent points per game last season (26.4 ppg) while managing just 21st in points per game (20 ppg) themselves.
When you consider that Arizona is likely to be starting Colt McCoy at quarterback and has almost no depth at receiver after Hollywood Brown and Rondale Moore, it seems obvious that it will struggle against a defense that allowed less than 200 passing yards per game (4th best in NFL).
Give me the Under 40.5 points in a game with two struggling offenses and one above-average defense. If you’re feeling bold, add Washington -6 on the spread to juice your odds up to +264.
