Things didn't go according to plan for the Washington Commanders during their regular-season opener at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fortunately for head coach Dan Quinn and his squad, they haven't got time to wallow in self-pity for too long.

The games are coming thick and fast, so turning the page quickly is crucial. Washington welcomes the New York Giants in Week 2, which is their opening home game of the campaign and the first chance to lay down a marker within the NFC East for good measure.

Performance levels need to improve dramatically, especially on the defensive side of things after this unit allowed quarterback Baker Mayfield to destroy them at Raymond James Stadium. However, pressure is also growing on the Giants following their inept showing at home to the Minnesota Vikings.

Can the Commanders raise their standards in the coming days and put their best foot forward? Or will the Giants galvanize themselves en route to yet another victory over Washington to get their campaign off and running?

Commanders vs. NY Giants prediction for Week 2

The Commanders' defense didn't inspire much confidence in Week 1, so some significant adjustments are needed heading into this one. However, the Giants didn't exactly set the world alight either.

Make no mistake, this is a winnable game for the Commanders. It's a chance to get one over on a division rival and announce to the NFC East that they are no longer a walkover. Easier said than done, but they're not without a chance if the offensive line copes with a strong defensive front at the Giants' disposal.

There's also Daniel Jones' situation to factor into this equation. Brian Daboll is moving forward with the veteran quarterback despite his lackluster showing versus the Vikings. He's got a pretty decent record against Washington, but his confidence has taken a big hit. This is something the Commanders could potentially take advantage of.

  • Prediction: Commanders win

This is all about showing some character. Last weekend stung, but there's no point dwelling on it. Quinn will be demanding better execution in all phases. There is also an expectant fanbase ready to get right behind this exciting new era if they can leave everything out on the field.
