Commanders vs. Jets Key Players to Watch

Washington Commanders

Terry McLaurin: After being held without a catch in Week 13 against the Dolphins, McLaurin exploded for six receptions (12 targets) for 141 yards and a touchdown in last week’s loss to the Rams.

The 28-year-old wide receiver went five consecutive games without scoring a touchdown before last week’s game against Los Angeles. The Commanders will hope that this performance can get McLaurin going, as he has a difficult matchup on Sunday against Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner.

New York Jets

Breece Hall: The second-year running back could not do anything on the ground against the Dolphins last week. Hall produced 12 yards on six carries, making it the second time he’s had fewer than 15 rushing yards in a game this season. Hall will look to find his footing against the Commanders’ run defense, which has allowed 139.7 rushing yards per game over their last three games.

Commanders vs. Jets Prediction and Pick

Washington made a valiant effort last week as they fought back from a 21-point deficit in the fourth quarter with Jacoby Brissett. Brissett replaced Sam Howell, who completed 11-of-26 passes for 102 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

Even though Brissett played well in relief, Washington is sticking Howell as their starting quarterback. That being said, Howell must play better, as he’s thrown an interception in four straight games.

In addition to Howell, the entire team must improve, as they’ve lost five straight games. Washington is being outscored by 17.6 points per game and only scoring 19.6 points.

However, the good news for Commanders is that the Jets are struggling to score points (14.4). But New York’s defense can make life tough for Howell as their front seven and secondary can create turnovers.

As for the Jets’ offense, we don’t know who will start at quarterback as Zach Wilson is in the concussion protocol. If Wilson or Trevor Siemian starts, I don’t see them having a breakout performance against this defense. Therefore, I’ll take the UNDER on the total, as neither team’s quarterbacks are playing great football.
