Commanders QB Sam Howell's TD passes lauded

Sam Howell's mesmerizing display at the Denver Broncos continues to come in for significant praise. No longer is the quarterback position holding the Washington Commanders' back - supreme play-caller Eric Bieniemy has a dependable gunslinger to call upon who rarely gets flustered in even the most crucial moments.

Howell reflected this mindset during two touchdowns passed to Logan Thomas and Terry McLaurin. The poise and conviction with which both throws were made came in for praise from head coach Ron Rivera, who is clearly impressed by his former fifth-round election based on comments via Sports Illustrated.

"I think it's both, a guy's mindset that he can go ahead and he can make those plays and then his ability to anticipate to see where the defender is. He obviously saw that Terry [McLaurin] was in position to run by these guys, and if he laid it out, Terry would go get it and that's exactly what I thought happened…as far as [Logan Thomas's] was concerned, the one that I saw was a separation between the two defenders and so the ball was thrown in front to lead him just in the position to catch it."

Howell gets another big challenge versus the Buffalo Bills in Week 3. Based on his exceptional recent growth and ability to handle even the brightest moments with relative comfort, another top-level performance could be in the offing.
