Commanders News: Sam Howell, Ron Rivera, 2023 draft class and injury woes

Commanders QB Sam Howell's development
There's not much to be positive about where the Washington Commanders are concerned right now. However, the ongoing progress of quarterback Sam Howell remains a shining light after another outstanding performance in the second half against the Chicago Bears.
Howell seems to be growing in confidence with every passing week. He's being let down by other areas - especially on the defensive side of things - but head coach Ron Rivera is pleased with what he's seen from a development and determination standpoint based on comments via the team's website.
"You do like what he's done and that's one of the things that you really appreciate. You see who he is, you see his grit, you see his toughness, you see his decision making. Those are all good. Those are things that hopefully we get this thing going in the right direction, that'll benefit as we continue the season. It's a long, long year. We got 12 more games left to play and we're going to approach them one game at a time and focus in on playing the best we can each game."

Hopefully, for Howell and the Commanders, they can figure things out in the coming weeks. Starting off on the front foot would go a long way to attaining growth, but the offensive line continues to give up too many hits - something else that could derail what's been a decent opening for the former fifth-round selection out of North Carolina.
