Commanders News: Sam Howell, Michael Carter, Ron Rivera and Bill Belichick

Commanders linked with Bill Belichick
The Washington Commanders are staring down another losing season under Ron Rivera. This won't go unnoticed by Josh Harris' ownership group, who are getting ready to make some landmark changes across the board unless things improve.
One name that seems to be generating momentum is Bill Belichick. His legendary time with the New England Patriots looks like it's coming to an end after this season, with the Commanders tipped as his next landing spot by Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports recently via The Spun.
"That leads me to believe it would be Washington. They haven't determined anything with the Chargers, and he’s an east coast guy. On the surface, Washington has some nice skill players and Bill doesn’t draft those. What they don't have is a star quarterback. They have Sam Howell, who deserves another year, but I don't think he's a hoist the trophy guy. Between Cleveland and New England, Bill has drafted 12 quarterbacks. He's hit a home run with one. The good news is, initially, they have what Bill can’t draft: weapons. But if Bill is your GM, he is an abject disaster. That’s being diplomatic."

Belichick might be a little long in the tooth, but this could be the big splash Washington's new ownership regime is looking for. One potential compilation might be his desire for full control rather than being just a head coach - something that's come with suspect personnel moves since quarterback Tom Brady was allowed to depart.
The Commanders might look for a progressive young offensive mind after Rivera - another defensive-minded figurehead. But the growing murmurings around Belichick's impending arrival cannot be dismissed.
