Commanders QB Sam Howell's growth

Any doubts some fans may have had about Sam Howell's credentials as the Washington Commanders starting quarterback should be put on the back-burner until further notice. The former fifth-round selection bounced back in the best possible way at the Philadelphia Eagles, putting on a masterful display under center that almost resulted in a shock victory.

Howell didn't much care about his exceptional performance considering the Commanders came out on the wrong end with a heartbreaking reverse. But he's clearly been working hard to rid himself of the complications that blighted his Week 3 outing against the Buffalo Bills.

This eye-catching growth was something Terry McLaurin touched on via Washington's website. The wide receiver highlighted Howell's maturity and studious approach to improving as primary factors why the locker room has full belief in his capabilities.

"I think that's what he does, honestly. I think it's because he's such a student of the game. He's a quick learner. He learns from his mistakes. He's still not gonna be a guy who's shy to push the ball down the field … It's really cool to see his maturation process game after game."

What's important for Howell is building on this momentum on Thursday night versus the Chicago Bears. They are one of two winless teams remaining, but the Commanders cannot take them lightly coming off a short week despite having home-field advantage at FedEx Field.
