Potentiial compensation for Commanders DE Montez Sweat
It promises to be a nervous few hours for many Washington Commanders players before their fate is determined before the 2023 trade deadline. Numerous names have come up as potential candidates to be moved, with the defensive end duo of Montez Sweat and Chase Young right at the top of speculation around the media.
There is reported interest in Young without anything official coming to light. As for Sweat, one offer has been reportedly filed by the Atlanta Falcons according to Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk.
Something might be about to give with the Commanders needing to pay Young and Sweat once their contracts expire next spring. Which one stays or goes has been a hot topic of discussion among fans, although keeping both hasn't been completely dismissed no matter how unlikely it appears currently.
This brings us to the potential compensation. Ben Standig of The Athletic provided more details on this front, with the beat writer claiming the offer centered on a third-round pick that would turn into a second if Sweat penned a long-term deal.

The Falcons are among the teams interested in Sweat, who grew up near Atlanta. Tuesday's 4 pm deadline should spur activity. https://t.co/3izO43eyAh
The offer would arguably be the maximum value for Sweat in the circumstances. He's been nothing but professional throughout all the rumors and has the production other teams should covet heavily, but it's still a big call to make considering Young's injury history before the current campaign.
