Commanders News: Sam Howell, Josh Harris, Ron Rivera and Chase Young

Commanders QB Sam Howell's solid night
After a decent enough training camp so far for Sam Howell, it was time to see what the former fifth-round selection could do in a typical game-day setting. The Washington Commanders opted to start the signal-caller during their preseason opener at the Cleveland Browns and would have been delighted by what they saw overall.
Howell completed 75 percent of his passes for 77 yards through the air, one touchdown, no interceptions, and a fantastic 119.1 passer rating. He was sacked once and gained eight yards rushing on a single carry.
While there are some things to clean up, Howell seemed pleased with how things went based on his post-game comments via Nicki Jhabvala from the Washington Post. Specifically, the way everything clicked progressively with each series he was on the field.
"I thought it was solid. Obviously got off to a slow start with the first two drives but I thought the third drive was really good. I was proud of our guys with how we battled back after a rough two drives and we gave up a safety. Think our ability to bounce back was definitely good and we put some good things on film."

This is a good start from Howell all things considered. The offensive line remains a real cause for concern, but his poise in the pocket and ability to go through his progressions were just two encouraging traits the former fifth-rounder out of North Carolina displayed impressively.
Long may it continue.
