Commanders QB Sam Howell's determination

Sam Howell is turning the page after a horror show against the Buffalo Bills. This is the mindset needed in pursuit of overcoming adversity, but things aren't getting any easier for the inexperienced signal-caller this week when he takes the field at Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

It was never going to be perfect for Howell, but how he responds in this one will be crucial. It will also tell us plenty about whether Ron Rivera made the right call in placing so much faith in the former fifth-round selection this offseason.

When discussing what comes next, Howell's clearly relishing the prospect of putting such a dismal showing behind him and showing everyone the sort of player he truly is based on comments via Washington's website.

"I think the player I was on Sunday is not who I truly am as a player. I can't go out there and make the excuse that I'm young because the teams we're playing, they don't care. The scoreboard doesn't care. So, I got to do my job at a higher level in order for this team to go where we want to go. Ever since the game ended on Sunday, I was excited for the next game just because I'm ready for another opportunity. I'm ready to go out there and play like myself again. We've got to have a really good week of practice and we'll have a good plan and it's just a matter of going in there and executing."

As previously stated, the Eagles have an embarrassment of riches on their defensive front. This will be a unique challenge for Howell, which makes it absolutely imperative the Commanders' offensive line raises their performance level in the face of stern opposition.
