Commanders QB trade touted

We've already entered a period of wild speculation about offseason plans. Nothing can be said for sure considering how many staffing changes will be made by the Washington Commanders. But that doesn't mean the rumors will subside until appointments are confirmed.

The biggest issue for the new regime centers on the quarterback position. Sam Howell's future as the starter seems in severe doubt. With the Commanders blessed with an abundance of high-end draft capital and around $90 million in salary-cap space, the possibilities are endless.

Nick Faria from Sports Illustrated came up with an idea that would essentially swap Howell for struggling New York Jets signal-caller Zach Wilson via trade. Something the writer claimed would be the best possible solution and represents a much-needed fresh start for both players.

"For Washington, they would have a young project of a quarterback to pair with a new head coach, front office, and eventual top quarterback selected. It's clear from his time in New York that [Zach] Wilson needs a reset at the entire position. His footwork, knowledge, and overall consistency need to improve so a couple of years of sitting behind a rookie isn't the worst idea ever. There are certainly cap gymnastics the Jets and Commanders would have to go through to make a deal like this work, but the idea of swapping Wilson and [Sam] Howell might be the best opportunity for both organizations to start over."

One would think the Commanders have bigger ambitions than going after someone like Wilson. But from Howell's point of view, learning under the wing of Aaron Rodgers would be highly beneficial to his long-term aspirations.
