Commanders News: Sam Howell, Eric Bieniemy, Chris Rodriguez and QB trade

Commanders QB Sam Howell's assessment
The last few weeks have been nothing short of disastrous for Sam Howell. He's gone from potentially being the Washington Commanders' long-term answer at quarterback to facing an incredibly murky future following two consecutive benchings. With Jacoby Brissett surging above him on the depth chart, it's unlikely to look favorably for the player when a new coaching regime comes into the fold.
Eric Bieniemy didn't mix his words when speaking about Howell's benching via Pro Football Talk. The play-caller was also confident the former fifth-round selection out of North Carolina would remain supportive in his new backup role considering the guidance Jacoby Brissett's given him throughout the campaign.
"He just didn’t play well, and unfortunately that happens. And it’s not like anything you can put your finger on. But on the flip side of that, Jacoby steps in and he sparks a rally. The good thing is that you have a great quarterback room and those guys do a great job of supporting one another, and those guys are the biggest fans of each other. And obviously it’s a tough situation, but I guarantee you Sam is going to be Jacoby’s biggest fan just as Jacoby was his biggest fan."

Howell is going to stay professional despite the disappointing turn of events. All he can do is focus on helping Brissett and working to improve some problem areas of his game. Anything else is out of his hands heading into what promises to be one of the most dramatic offseasons in franchise history.
