Commanders urged to sign Dalvin Cook

Josh Harris and his group of investors are set to get their $6.05 billion purchase of the Washington Commanders approved next month. And many are expecting their ambitions to make a big slash or two immediately.

The Commanders don't have the largest amount to spend on their salary cap currently. But once Harris' group gets into the building, there are ways to shift this in their favor that Dan Snyder was unwilling to implement before heading out of the door.

Just what players would be around or interested in joining the Commanders by July 20 is anyone's guess. But according to former general manager Michael Lombardi during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show via Sportskeeda, running back Dalvin Cook should be their primary target.

"Washington to me should be all over Dalvin Cook because they need a running back that can be electric… Washington is going through an ownership change, so, maybe that's limiting how much funds they can spend. We'll know about that come July 20, but I'm projecting that based on what I think would be the fits that would make the team better. If Washington had Dalvin Cook to go along with Sam Howell a rookie, in Eric Bieniemy’s west coast offense, I think that would really take a lot of pressure off the young quarterback."

This isn't the first backfield presence to be linked in recent days. Kareem Hunt is another that's drawn reported interest from the Commanders, which seems strange considering the confidence in Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson under Eric Bieniemy's guidance.

Cook was recently let go by the Minnesota Vikings and would be a significant addition to any team. However, his financial demands would have to come down before this becomes a serious option for the Commanders.
