Commanders QB Sam Howell relishing the moment
Sam Howell is getting ready to tick off another milestone this weekend when he takes the field for his first competitive road game. The quarterback turned out in a limited capacity during away preseason fixtures, but this will be a completely different environment entirely.
The Washington Commanders are counting on Howell to produce despite his lack of experience. But instead of demonstrating any signs of trepidation, the former fifth-round selection is clearly relishing the prospect of going behind enemy lines in pursuit of victory based on his comments via Sports Illustrated.
"Yeah, I'm excited. I love playing on the road. It's a lot of fun to go play at another team's home and try to give it your best shot. We feel like we can go in there and we have a good opportunity to go play against a really good football team in a really cool stadium, really cool environment. It's just a great opportunity for us as an offense. We've got to have a really good week of practice and a really good week of preparation to go in there and give ourselves a chance."

If Howell protects the football more effectively and Washington's defense performs to its usually high standards, they are not without a chance. But the Commanders can ill afford their signal-caller becoming a weak link based on what's unfolded at the position throughout Ron Rivera's tenure.
Still, there is still more hope than otherwise so early in the campaign.
