Commanders DE Chase Young to the Chiefs?

Even though Chase Young looked back to something like his old self during the opening portion of the team's mandatory minicamp, the Washington Commanders are proceeding with extreme caution. Not unexpected when one considers the complications suffered by the former Ohio State phenom over the last two years.

Young is heading into the final season of his rookie deal after the Commanders didn't pick up his fifth-year option. The Commanders haven't hinted they would trade the pass-rusher just yet, but the speculation continues to mount about this scenario becoming a reality in the near future.

One potential destination that continues to come up for Young is the Kansas City Chiefs. They are on the hunt for another edge presence after cutting Frank Clark this spring, and Logan Lazarczyk from USA Today Sports thinks the current Super Bowl champions are the perfect fit, even if it might be only a short-term solution given the future financial commitment needed.

"Playing alongside Chris Jones could also open up opportunities for Young. A player of Young’s caliber should be capable of exploiting one-man protection, as Jones will often be occupying multiple interior offensive linemen. Trading for Young could be a one-year proposition. That is something some Chiefs fans may not be thrilled with, but if acquiring Young helps the team hoist a Lombardi Trophy in 2023, there will be little rebuttal to the move."

Again, and we cannot stress this enough, the Commanders still believe in Young. But if he cannot start the campaign healthy or in good form, moving him before the deadline becomes an option.
